SERMACS 2018 – Items of Interest

SERMACS2018, the 70th Southeastern Regional Meeting of the ACS http://sermacs2018.org, is being held Oct. 31 – Nov. 3, 2018 at the Augusta Convention Center in Augusta, GA. Abstract submission is open until Aug 16th and this is a meeting NUCL members will want to attend.

The division has helped fund numerous symposia of interest:

  • Advances in Actinide Coordination Chemistry & Ligand Design, Prof. Modi Wetzler, Clemson
  • Chemistry Applications of Neutron Scattering, Prof. John Larese, UT-Knoxville
  • Environmental Radiochemistry, Prof. B. Powell, Clemson
  • Mass Spectroscopy Methods in Nuclear Science, Dr. Brian Ticknor, ORNL
  • Nuclear Measurements: High Activity Radiochemistry & Nuclear Non-Destructive Assays, Dr. David DiPrete, SRNL
  • Nuclear Propulsion in Space Exploration, Dr. Luke Roberson, NASA
  • Pu-238 Production & Use, Dr. E. Fox, SRNL
  • Microwave Synthesis of Materials for Sensing and Radiological Applications, Dr. Aaron Washington, SRNL

as well as an undergraduate plenary given by Dr. Dale Ensor of Tennessee Tech.

The meeting will also host the unveiling of a National Historic Chemical Landmark with significance to the division: “ACS National Historic Chemical Landmark Designation for: Savannah River Site (SRS) Production and Separation of Heat Source Plutonium-238 to Power Space Exploration”
